Restricted Funds

The Coshocton Foundation has established Restricted Funds for many purposes and reasons.  These include:

  • Endowment funds – established to provide support for the ongoing operations of the designated entities
  • Donor Advised funds – created for many purposes, with the donors acting as advisors to recommend uses of the monies
  • Designated funds – set up to be used for specific purposes or organizations stipulated by the donors
  • Area of Interest funds – established by donors who specify a field of interest which will benefit from the fund
  • Scholarship funds – set up with varying criteria to assist students in the furtherance of their educational pursuits

Endowment, Donor Advised, Designated & Area of Interest Funds

Gary and Terrie Baker Family Donor Advised Fund

Established late in 2015, the intention of the fund is to allow fund advisors Gary and Terrie Baker to recommend grants to local charitable organizations.

Berg Family Donor Advised Fund

The Berg Family Donor Advised Fund was established in September 2021 by Richard (Dick) and Frances (Francie) Berg, who planned to actively recommend charitable contributions to the Foundation during their lifetimes and have made provisions in their estate planning for the perpetuation of their fund beyond their lifetimes for the continued betterment of the community.

Charles E. and Dorothy S. Bechtol Fund

This fund was established in 1999 with an initial gift of $300,000.  The fund is used for general charitable purposes recommended by the fund representative and approved by the Distribution Committee.

The Blessings Fund

This Donor Advised Fund was established in December of 2018 through the generosity of Dr. Robert and Kathy Gwinn. Since the fund’s origin the Gwinns have recommended several charitable grants, with a primary focus on faith-based organizations.

Willard S. and Helen J. Breon Endowment Fund

This fund was created in 1996 by Foundation Trustee Emeritus Bill Breon and his wife Helen, for the betterment of the community. In recent years, earnings from the fund have been distributed to the Leadership Coshocton County program for its operating expenses.

Philip K.D. Brown and Patricia M. Brown Fund

The Philip K.D. Brown and Patricia M. Brown Fund, a donor advised fund, was established in January of 2020 by the Browns who plan to actively recommend charitable contributions to the Foundation during their lifetimes, and have made provisions in their estate planning for the perpetuation of their fund beyond their lifetimes for the continued betterment of the community.

William and Sue Brown Donor Advised Fund

This fund benefits eligible organizations and programs in the community. The Browns make recommendations regarding grants to the Distribution Committee for its approval.

David N. Burns Youth Fund

Established by David W. and Mary Cathryn Burns in their son’s memory, the fund is intended to provide assistance for youth attending special programs. Emphasis is given to programs and camps conducted by colleges in the hope that attendance will encourage participants to further their education.

Community Development Fund

A group of local individuals created the idea of asking individuals and businesses to donate $100 per month toward economic development in Coshocton County. Expenditures from the fund are recommended by the Coshocton Port Authority, and are typically used for land acquisition, lease subsidies, business relocations, grant matches, marketing and entrepreneurial grants.

Coshocton Christian School Legacy Fund

This fund was established in early July 2022 by the Coshocton Christian School Board to provide dedicated supporters of Coshocton Christian School a vehicle to channel their charitable giving as well as estate planning to the benefit of the school. The board’s hope is to one day be able to provide tuition subsidies for worthy students and to eventually provide support for future capital projects. 

Coshocton City Schools Designated Fund

Formerly known as the Coshocton City Schools Foundation Fund, this fund was established to receive contributions from former students, staff members, businesses and friends of the school system. A committee makes quarterly recommendations for disbursements from the fund for the betterment of Coshocton City Schools.

Coshocton County Bar Association Donor Advised Fund

The Coshocton County Bar Association Donor Advised Fund was established by members of the local Bar Association in September 2023, just prior to the end of the Fiscal Year. Funding was provided from an accumulation of fees charged to attorneys over the years. Bar Association members hope to use funds to support future Bar Association initiatives and to provide support for their scholarship fund, which has benefited graduating high school seniors, county wide, since 1997.

Coshocton County EMS Fund

This fund was established to allow tax-free contributions in support of Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services. Distributions are recommended by a committee comprised of the EMS director and two other persons selected by EMS. Grants are approved by the Distribution Committee.

Coshocton County Youth Leadership Fund

This fund was established to accept general donations as well as contributions from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund for the Youth Leadership program’s operating expenses.

Coshocton Elks 376 Charities Fund

The Coshocton Elks 376 Charities established this fund at the Coshocton Foundation to benefit worthy projects which aid communities, schools and organizations in Coshocton County. The creation of this charitable fund is hoped to demonstrate the Elks’ mission: “Elks Care and Elks Share.”  

Coshocton Hospital Fund

The fund was created in July of 2014 by the Board of Directors of the hospital, and is intended to be used for capital improvements at the Coshocton hospital.

Coshocton Kiwanis Club Fund

Established in 2003 with a gift from the club and the estate of Clarence Miller, this fund is added to by the club with continuing contributions. The Kiwanis Foundation trustees recommend distributions, normally only from the earnings of the club with a focus on serving children who live in Coshocton County.

Coshocton Meals on Wheels Fund

This fund was established by Robert (Robin) Coffman just two weeks before his death in 2013. The fund will benefit the local Meals on Wheels program as needed in future years.

Coshocton Youth Foundation Fund

The Youth Foundation consisted of local high school students who invested their time, talent and money for the betterment of the community. Students raised funds, wrote grant applications, and disbursed money to projects selected by the students. The group is currently inactive.

Eleanor Wade Custer Charitable Fund

Earnings from this fund are donated entirely to the Coshocton Salvation Army in Mrs. Custer’s memory.

Robert W. and Dorothy H. Dunmire Fund

Each year a percentage of the value of the fund will be made available to the Foundation to be used for grants which will benefit the youth of Coshocton County. For the past few years, this fund has been a major support of the Coshocton County Youth Leadership program. Grant recommendations may be made by the Dunmires’ children.

William and Mary Ehrich Library Fund

Established in 1997 by Mary Ehrich, this fund will distribute a maximum of 10% of the fund’s principal, plus earnings, to support projects of the Coshocton Public Library.

Derek A. Brown Elgart Memorial Soccer Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established by Derek’s parents, Amy and Todd Brown, after his tragic death in December 2008, and benefits non-profit soccer programs at the recommendation of the Brown family.

Joe R. Engle Museum Gallery Fund

Income from a $200,000 grant supports lectures, exhibits and acquisitions connected with the Joe R. Engle Gallery at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.

Joe R. Engle Recital Fund

This fund augments a similar fund at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church. Income from both funds supports organ recitals, memorial events or performances which utilize the Engle organ at the Presbyterian Church.

Perry L. & Georgia R. Engle Memorial Organ Maintenance Fund

This fund also supplements a Coshocton Presbyterian Church fund which was established to provide for maintenance and repair of the Engle organ.

Alma Felver and Olive Mullin Fund

Alma Felver was a long-time Edmont-Wilson employee and member of Roscoe United Methodist Church.  Her Last Will & Testament set forth the creation of this fund which also honors her sister Olive. The fund benefits Hospice of Coshocton County, the American Heart Association, and the Unrestricted Fund of the Coshocton Foundation.

Fisher/McCarren Fund

Established by Kenneth and Rhea Fisher, the proceeds from this fund are distributed at the direction of the Coshocton Foundation.

Footlight Players Fund

Established by an anonymous donation and consolidated with the Cornelia Flood Shaw Fund, this benefits the local community theatre group. The Footlight Players may request grants from the fund’s earnings but the principal may not be depleted.

Four Paws Friends Legacy Donor Advised Fund

This fund was created in November of 2018 by the former Board of Directors of the Four Paws Friends. It is their hope that their hard work can be continued through grants from the Fund issued to caring groups that are dedicated to animal welfare and that employ innovative solutions for the betterment of the lives of animals in Coshocton County.  

Friends of the Parks Recreational Trail Maintenance Fund

Established by an initial gift from the Schooler Family Foundation, earnings from this fund will finance maintenance on the trail which was opened at Lake Park in 2000.  Disbursements will be recommended by an advisory board comprised of the president and treasurer of the Friends of the Parks, and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Jim and Mary Ann Gill Donor Advised Fund

This fund was initiated by Jim and Mary Ann Gill in December of 2020, with the Gills planning to actively recommend impactful charitable contributions during their lifetimes, with provisions for annual distributions from the proceeds of the fund to their favorite causes beyond their lifetimes.

Joan Hartley Gross Memorial Fund

Created through a generous bequest in the Last Will and Testabment of Mrs. Gross, who died in 2010, this fund was established by the Trustees in her honor. A comunity philanthropist and advocate for the Coshocton Foundation, for many years, Mrs. Gross served as a member of the Foundation’s Distribution Committee and advised a restricted fund which was instrumental in the development of the Lake Park Complex.

Charles Hathaway IV Boy Scout Fund

Chuck and Paula Hathaway created this fund in memory of their son Charles, who died in 2012 at the age of 24.  It will benefit local Boy Scouts by assisting them in achieving their dreams by having adventures at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the Boy Scout National Jamboree or another Boy Scout High Adventure experience. 

Hay Historical Fund

This fund provides for the cost of maintaining the groups at the Old Stone Fort in Oxford Township.  The fund previously was administered by the now inactive Coshocton Historical Society.

Hospice of Coshocton Legacy Fund  

This fund was created in June of 2017 by the Board of Directors of Health Services and Hospice of Coshocton County, and is intended to be used to support the programs of Community Hospice of Coshocton County and/or Health Services of Coshocton County (Gentlebrook) that benefit the citizens of Coshocton County.

Joseph W., Fred E. and Helen LeRetilley Johnston Fund

This fund was created through a generous bequest from Fred E. Johnston, long-time friend of the Coshocton Foundation, who served on both the Investment and Distribution committees for many years. This legacy constitutes the largest single gift in the Foundation’s history. The Trustees and Distribution Committee make grants from this fund to address the needs of the community. 

Eugene and Marianne Lautenschleger Fund

This fund was established by the Lautenschlegers for the benefit of several local charities. With Marianne predeceasing him, the fund became active with Gene’s passing in October of 2018.

Leadership Coshocton County Endowment Fund

Established by a gift of $100,000 from the late Robert M. Thomas, the earnings are to underwrite a portion of the operating expenses of the Leadership Coshocton County program.

Leadership Coshocton County Operating Fund

This fund was established to accept general donations as well as contributions from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund for the Leadership program’s operating expenses.

Tom and Merle Leech Donor Advised Fund

This fund was created to benefit numerous community organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Salvation Army, Coshocton County Community Band, Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, Friends of the Parks, First Step Family Violence Intervention Services, Mentoring Center of Coshocton County, Coshocton Public Library, Dollars for Scholars, and the Coshocton County Bar Association Scholarship Fund. It was established by Merle and Tom Leech. Tom was a long-time attorney and was active in many organizations in the community.

Edwin F. Mulligan Endowment Fund

This fund was established by Mr. Mulligan for general charitable purposes in the community.

Janet Jones Mulligan Aquatic Fund

This fund was established to encourage aquatic skills, promote aquatic activities and assist swimming facilities in Coshocton County. The fund was established by the family of the late Mrs. Mulligan, an accomplished, lifelong competitive swimmer and patron of area aquatic activities.

Newcomerstown Public Library Fund

Established by that library’s Board of Trustees, this is to fund expenses including operations, capital expenditures, programming and purchase of materials or equipment.  

Northeast Coshocton County Infrastructure Fund

Discussions centering on Economic Development in support of the fine woodworking artisans and their products’ growing impact on the local economy led to the formulation of the Northeast Coshocton County Infrastructure Fund, a collaborative effort of the Coshocton Port Authority, Coshocton County Engineer’s Department and the public to provide matching funds for road resurfacing projects that are outside the County Engineer’s budget.

John D. O’Shea and Kathleen E. O’Shea Fund

Established through the Kathleen E. O’Shea Revocable Trust, this fund is to be used to support live theater and dance performances in Coshocton County. Kathleen O’Shea was a lover of dance and was active in choreography and theater productions in Coshocton and Marion, Ohio. It was Kathleen’s hope that her generous gift would enrich the Coshocton community.   

Don and Sheila Parkhill Donor Advised Fund

This fund benefits eligible organizations and programs in the community. The Parkhills make recommendations to the Distribution Committee for its approval.

Earl J. Patterson and Patrick E. Patterson Memorial Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established in late 2020 through the Living Trust of Patrick E. “Pep” Patterson who died in 2017, and honors the memory and lives of Patrick and his father Earl Patterson, who passed away in 2018. An advisory committee will make recommendations to the Foundation for qualified distributions from the earnings of this fund.

Pierce Family Fund

Established to honor the memory of the late Clifton and Judy Pierce, this fund is advised by their son Judge C. Fenning Pierce. Distributions are recommended by the family and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Playvilion Maintenance Fund

Established with an initial gift of $25,000 from the Schooler Family Foundation, this fund provides revenue to maintain the impressive playground area at Lake Park.

Pomerene Center Community Arts Fund

Established in August 2016 through a generous gift from Robert and Carolyn Simpson, this fund provides support for the Pomerene Center and its community arts projects such as the artPark. The Simpsons hoped to encourage others who share their interest in promoting the arts in Coshocton to consider gifts to the fund, either during their lifetime or in estate planning.

Joyce K. Renfrew Memorial Fund

This fund was created through a trust from the estate of the late Mrs. Renfrew, a long-time educator and friend of the Footlight Players. It has been used to purchase new seats and for other renovations in the auditorium at Triple Locks Theater.

Socrates J. Rettos Cardinal Chorale Fund

John and Reba Rettos established this fund in memory of their son, Socrates, who passed away due to esophageal cancer. An Eagle Scout in his youth, Socrates was active in band, music and theater in his hometown, including singing with the Coshocton Community Choir. The intent of the fund is to provide programming support for the Cardinal Chorale, in recognition of the mentoring and dedication of the choir’s founder, Charles Snyder, who had also served as Socrates’ scout master.  

Richard L. (Dick) Richissin Fund

Earnings from this fund are used to support the Arrowhead District of the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America and to promote Scouting in Coshocton County. The fund was established in memory of Mr. Richissin, an Eagle Scout and long-time active member of the Coshocton community and advocate for the Boy Scouts.

Ridgewood Summer Recreation Fund

Established by the officers of Ridgewood Summer Recreation, this fund will support the summer baseball programs for youth in the West Lafayette area.

River View Schools Donor Advised Fund

This fund works alongside the River View Schools Scholarship Fund to provide money for other worthwhile endeavors within the school system, such as classroom equipment and educational trips. Distributions are made at the recommendation of this foundation’s distribution committee.

R. Larry & Judith Ann Heagle Robinson Fund 

This fund was established in November 2021 through a beneficiary provision in Larry Robinson’s IRA which named the Coshocton Foundation as a direct beneficiary at his passing. Judy and Larry were high school sweethearts and married in August of 1968.  Judy passed away in August of 2019, with Larry following her in August of 2021. The Foundation Trustees will direct this fund, issuing grants to the betterment of the community. 

Sacred Heart School Fund

Established in 2003 to provide funds for the operations of Sacred Heart School, distributions from the fund’s earnings may be requested by a committee designated by the school and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Seward D. and Edith Schooler Support Fund

Income from this endowment is to be used to pay the expense of operating and maintaining the Coshocton Foundation headquarters building which was also donated by the Schoolers. This frees regular Foundation funds for philanthropic community uses.

Simpson Family Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established by Robert E. and Juanita Simpson as an advised fund to benefit the general needs of the community. Grants from the fund are recommended by the Simpson family and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Wendell & Hilde Skelley Memorial Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established in December 2018 by Mrs. Skelley’s nine surviving children and their families in memory of Hilde and her husband Wendell. While Hilde lived to be 89, Wendell passed away quite suddenly at the age of 40, leaving Hilde with 10 children and limited financial resources with which to meet their needs. Hilde persevered by putting others before herself, by never quitting through difficult times and by leading by example. To honor their father and mother, the family intends to work with the Foundation to ensure that the fund in their parents’ memory is of benefit to the citizens of Coshocton County.

Skelton Family Fund

This fund was created by Joseph Skelton and his cousins Robert and James, practicing attorneys at Pomerene, Burns & Skelton law offices, The donors take an active role in recommending distributions from the fund.

Mary F. Taylor Donor Advised Fund

Proceeds earned by this fund are to be divided equally between the Coshocton City/County Park District and the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.

Ashton B. Conidi Thornsley Memorial Fund

This fund was established by Ashton’s maternal grandparents following the six-year-old’s death in an automobile accident two days before Christmas, 2008.  The fund will benefit youth programs in Coshocton County.

Robert T. Timmons, Sr. Funds 1, 2 and 3

In early September of 2020 Robert T. (Bob) Timmons, Sr. established three donor advised funds as part of his estate planning. While living Bob plans to actively recommend charitable grants to the Foundation, while at his death, a transition will take place that will see his three sons assume the advisory role and continue his legacy.

Trinity Episcopal Church Fund

A generous bequest from Joan Gross to her church led to the church’s Vestry to create this fund. Designed to address any financial needs of the church, it has already greatly assisted in the replacement of the building’s antiquated heating system. 

Ben Tufford Advised Fund

The Last Will & Testament of Ben Tufford, an avid baseball fan, sponsor and coach, provided for the establishment of this fund, which will benefit the Coshocton Cherokees American Legion Baseball organization.

United Way of Coshocton County Legacy Fund

With the hopes of providing a way for longtime supporters of the United Way of Coshocton to continue their legacy of giving, this fund will utilize a portion of the income to be reinvested in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Health related initiatives in Coshocton County.

Wayne and Flossie Van Dusen Fund

Created by a gift from the Van Dusens, annual distributions of the fund’s earnings will be made with equal 22% shares going to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, the Coshocton County Career Center, the Coshocton Salvation Army, and Health Services of Coshocton County (Hospice). The remaining 12% of the earnings shall be retained and added to the principal balance.

Harry C. Wilt Memorial EMS Education Grant Fund 

Harry Wilt was instrumental in the establishment of the Coshocton County EMS. Along with other community leaders, Harry helped analyze the need and helped to plan and implement community-based EMS in Coshocton County through the formation of the Coshocton County Emergency Squad Association in the early 1970s. Harry subsequently served a term as Squad Chief of the Coshocton Squad and also a term as President of the County Association. Harry was an active volunteer for the majority of his adult life; a volunteer firefighter, EMT and with the Boy Scouts of America. It is in this spirit that his wife, Dortha W. Ralph D. and Judy P. Wisenburg Fund

Earnings from this fund may be used for philanthropic grants approved by the Distribution Committee.

Wisenburg Trinity Episcopal Church Fund

This designated fund became established at the passing of 101-year-old Ralph D. Wisenburg in October of 2018. The fund agreement provides for annual disbursements to the Trinity Episcopal Church of Coshocton, where Ralph, a long-time member, was also a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden.

WOSU Endowment Fund

Established to provide financial support for WOSE-FM, the Coshocton County affiliate of the Ohio State University’s classical music radio station, WOSU-FM. Earnings from the fund’s principal are issued at the request of the station’s advisory board and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Scholarships

Angel of Hope Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Graham Kendall by his family and friends, this fund provides a scholarship to a deserving senior who participated in the high school soccer program.  Graham’s father, Gordon Kendall, is an active participant in the selection process.

Kenneth and Janice Bantum Scholarship Fund 

Mrs. Bantum, who has been a widow for several years, created the fund to assist a graduating senior from Coshocton High School who plans to enter the field of education, as there were several teachers in her husband’s family. 

Willard & Edna Baughman Memorial Fund

This fund provides a four-year scholarship to a Coshocton High School student. Awards are made by a committee and the recipient must maintain an acceptable grade point average to receive financial assistance each year of college. The scholarship is awarded once every four years.

Kenneth F. Berry Memorial Adult Scholarship Fund

This fund honors the memory of attorney and former state senator Ken Berry. A one-year $2,000 scholarship is awarded to an adult “non-traditional” student attending any two-or-four-year degree-granting institution. 

Blue River Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by the late Ernest R. (Bob) and Louise Passow to award scholarships to students at Coshocton High School as well as Blue River Valley and Hobart high schools in Indiana, which the Passows attended. 

Willard S. Breon Memorial Scholarship

This memorial scholarship was established by the Coshocton Foundation Trustees to honor the long years of service of Bill Breon to the Foundation and to the community. Each of the county high schools receives this scholarship every year.

Beulah Brownfield Memorial Adult Scholarship Fund

This fund provides scholarships to adult, non-traditional students who are attending any two-or-four-year degree-granting institution.

Fred G. Bullens Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established to honor the memory of Fred Bullens, son of retired Coshocton Foundation Trustee Sally Bullens and her husband Ed. Fred, who passed away in 2010, was a long-time friend of the community and an avid athletic booster. The fund provides a $500 award to a student from one of the local high schools who participated in the school’s wrestling or baseball program. 

Mike Burr Scholarship Fund

The Mike Burr Scholarship Fund was established in December of 2019 by the family of Mike Burr, a popular, long-time boys’ soccer and baseball coach at River View High School. The scholarship, to be presented to a boys’ soccer or baseball player at River View High School, where Mike taught for 35 years, will be in memory of the late coach. He passed away at age 61 after a long battle with cancer.

Dorothy & Michael Carey Scholarship Fund

A generous bequest of $100,000 in the will of Dorothy Lucille Ames Carey will provide two annual scholarships of up to $2,500 to graduating seniors of Coshocton and River View high schools. The fund was established to honor the memory of Mrs. Carey, who died in 2007, and her son Michael, who predeceased her. Dorothy Carey was an active member of the community whose desire was to help students with a need for assistance with college costs.

Carlson Scholarship Loan Fund

Created with a bequest of $1.6 million from the estate of Herbert and Jean Louis Carlson, this scholarship loan fund requires area graduates to pursue a teaching degree in math and/or science at the College of Wooster.  Following graduation, the student is to return to the area to teach for at least three years.  When all obligations are completed, the four-year scholarship loan will be forgiven in its entirety.

Chaney Brothers CHS Golf Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established by Mary Hughes in honor of her twin brothers Ronnie and Donnie who were members of the Coshocton High School Varsity Golf team and lifelong golfing enthusiasts. Graduating CHS golfers who were members of the golf team during their junior and senior years are eligible to apply for the scholarship.   

Alice L. Clift Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund has been re-worked and now provides a one-year scholarship to a nursing student in the LPN-to-RN program at the COTC Coshocton Campus.

Albert V. Cline Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

Created by Mr. Cline’s sons, Albert and Dana, this award is provided to a graduating senior from Coshocton High School who intends to enter the field of journalism and/or communications.

Clodaugh Brenneman Cline Scholarship Fund

At the death of Clodaugh Brenneman Cline in April 2001, her husband Al and her sons Albert and Dana established and endowed this fund to provide scholarships each year to one or more River View graduates who also attended Warsaw Elementary. 

Grace V. Coffman Memorial Scholarship

Formally established in 2016 as part of a reorganization of former Coshocton High School Foundation funds, this scholarship, for which there is no application, honors the memory of Grave V. Coffman. The winner is the CHS student with the highest score on the National Merit Test, typically taken during the junior year.

Coshocton Aviation Technology Scholarship Fund

The Coshocton Aviation Technology Scholarship Fund was established in May 2023 by three commercial pilots with Coshocton County roots. Don Wolfe, Donis Emslie and Don Fischer are very appreciative for the encouragement and support they received in their early years and wish to provide an opportunity for graduating seniors from Coshocton County who are pursuing a degree or certificate in aviation and aerospace training. This would include: flight and ground training associated with earning a pilot certificate or rating; A&P and AI training for aviation mechanic and inspector; ATC specialist; Airline Dispatcher and Aviation studies related to an aviation degree. There are plans to make the award available to adults with a maximum age of 25. If fundraising efforts are successful, the awards will be made available in 2024.

Coshocton Bar Association Memorial Scholarship Fund

A scholarship fund established in memory of deceased members of the Coshocton Bar Association, this fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from each of the three county high schools. Contributions to the fund by bar association members and others, are encouraged.

Coshocton County Restaurant Association Scholarship Fund

This unique scholarship fund provides assistance for a Coshocton County Career Center student who intends to pursue higher education in the culinary arts. The recipient is selected by a committee which includes Dr. Bob Wilson, a former restaurant owner, and representatives of local restaurants.

Coshocton High School Alumni Scholarship

Formally established in 2016 as part of a reorganization of former Coshocton High School Foundation funds, this scholarship will be awarded to a worthy graduating senior of CHS.

*Coshocton High School Class of 1987 Scholarship Fund 

In July of 2022 the Coshocton High School Class of 1987 joined in the long-standing tradition of CHS graduating classes establishing a scholarship fund at the Coshocton Foundation.  The class anticipates awarding several scholarships to CHS graduating seniors at the commencement exercises on the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1987’s graduation.  

Coshocton Area Jaycees Endowment Fund

With its first scholarship awarded in 2008, this fund was established by Denny Lowe and Tim Larr, who were members of the now disbanded local Jaycees organization, with the club treasury, which had been in an account at a local bank. Fund earnings will be used to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior at Coshocton High School.

Coshocton Lions Club Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund provides one or more scholarships each year to deserving Coshocton High School students. Typically, each year the award is given in the name of a deceased Lions Club member.

Leslie A. Croft Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Leslie A. Croft Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in June 2023 by the family of Leslie Croft, a popular and award-winning educator who passed away of cancer earlier that same month. Leslie taught for 30 years at Sacred Heart, River View Local, Tri-Valley Local and Coshocton City school districts. She was honored as the Region 9 Teacher of the Year in 2022 and was a finalist in the top ten for Ohio Teacher of the Year honors. In addition to her service as an educator, Leslie served as a mentor, speaker and advocate for cancer patients. She testified before the Ohio House of Representatives to help pass a bill ensuring that insurance companies pay for MRI Imaging for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Always teaching, this experience modeled for her students that they not be afraid to express themselves. Beginning in 2024, the scholarship fund, which has received a great deal of community support, will provide a one-time scholarship for a graduating senior at Coshocton High School or River View High School who intends to pursue a 4-year degree in Elementary Education.

Eleanor Wade Custer Memorial Adult Scholarship Fund

Created earlier by Henry L. and M.D. Custer, this fund provides a one-year scholarship to an adult, “non-traditional” student who is attending any two-or-four-year degree-granting institution.

Norm Davitt Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was created by Cindy Davitt and the Friends of the Coshocton County Drug Court to honor Cindy’s husband, long-time public defender, Norm Davitt. Graduates of the Coshocton County Juvenile Drug Court, or Coshocton County Family Dependency Treatment Court, who demonstrate promise and a vision for their future are chosen by the committee to receive the award to further their educational and vocational goals.

Carol A. Deeds Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Mrs. Deeds’ children to honor their mother’s memory, the intent of this fund is to provide a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from any of the county’s secondary schools. Recipients will be pursuing a certificate program or a technical or technology/trade school program.

Coshocton County Women Educators Scholarship Fund

Formerly the Delta Kappa Gamma Fund, this fund provides an annual scholarship award to a female graduating senior from one of the three county high schools who will be pursuing a degree in education.

Derewecki Science Grant

Created by Adam Derewecki, this scholarship will benefit students who intend to pursue a career in the “hard sciences,” which are defined as engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, geology, earth science, and environmental science.

Bob Dieli, Sr. Wrestling Scholarship

The Bob Dieli, Sr. Wrestling Scholarship Fund was established in November of 2019 by the family of Bob Dieli, Sr., who is enshrined as a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame at Stillwater, Oklahoma, and is also inducted in The Ohio State University’s Hall of Fame. Bob coached at Olympic levels and was responsible for many state champions at the high school level. Bob also was involved in broadcasting collegiate wrestling for over 25 years on a public TV station. The scholarship in his memory will be awarded to a three-year varsity wrestler at any of the three Coshocton County high schools.

Lyle and Dorothy Ehrenberg Scholarship Fund

Upon the passing of her husband, Mrs. Ehrenberg established this fund, which provides a scholarship to graduating seniors from all three local high schools.

Elson Family Education Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established by Michel E. Elson and his wife Mary in June 2019, just days before Mike’s passing. In addition to Mike, the fund honors the memory of his late wife Diane and daughter Michaela, all of whom succumbed to cancer. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from any of the Coshocton County high schools or Tri-Valley High School who intends to major in early elementary or agricultural education in college.

Richard A. Frank Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 1998, this is a $1,000 one-year scholarship awarded in memory of Richard A. Frank. This award is given to a deserving senior, and rotates among the three local high schools. A committee including members of Richie’s family select the recipient. 

Colonel & Mrs. Edward F. Gehrke Memorial Scholarship Fund  

This scholarship fund was established by members of the Gehrke family in memory of Colonel Edward F. Gehrke and in honor of his wife, Elizabeth, with the desire to recognize those who have served and sacrificed for their country. The scholarship will benefit a local graduating senior with a parent or grandparent who was honorably discharged or is on active duty with one of the branches of the United States military.

Jim and Mary Ann Gill Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was initiated by Jim and Mary Ann Gill in December of 2020 for graduating seniors at Coshocton High School, where Mary Ann taught mathematics. Applicants for the scholarship award will be pursuing a degree in Education. Preference will be given to applicants planning to major in the field of Math, and also to applicants who were active in either the Boy or Girl Scouts of America, as Jim has been involved in BSA throughout his lifetime.

Bill & Carolyn Gorscak Memorial Scholarship Fund  

With a great deal of support from the community, this scholarship fund was initiated by Bill Gorscak in December of 2021 for graduating seniors at Ridgewood High School. Carolyn, who passed away in October of 2021, was a popular educator who taught in the Ridgewood district for many years, while Bill has a long history of coaching and continues to support the district’s athletes. Applicants for the scholarship award will be pursuing a degree in Education, with preference given to those who actively participated in Ridgewood Varsity Athletics. 

Betty Jane Hawk Scholarship Fund

Created by Mrs. Hawk’s children to honor her memory and her principles, the fund provides a $500 scholarship to a sophomore English student at Ridgewood High School in order to encourage an early commitment to attend college. Mrs. Hawk’s children and a committee select the recipient.

Ruby S. Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship Fund

Mrs. Hawthorne’s granddaughters, Juliet Norris Lacy and Christyn Norris Kurtz, established this fund in memory of their grandmother, a long-time educator, postmaster and psychologist. Mrs. Hawthorne, a lifelong learner, died in 2012 at the age of 93. The scholarship will benefit an adult “non-traditional” student.

Catherine Rusk Howard Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in April of 2018, just prior to Catherine’s passing, the scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior at Coshocton, Ridgewood and River View high schools. Catherine was a vivacious, life-long learner who excelled in many fields and endeavors throughout her colorful lifetime. Applicants will need to impress the selection committees by demonstrating their character, work ethic, and zest for life and learning, along with their desire to return to Coshocton County upon graduation and to live an impactful life here while working in their chosen vocational field.  

Jones Metal Products Company Adult Legacy Scholarship Fund

Upon the 90th anniversary of Jones Metal Products in Coshocton County, the company established this scholarship which will benefit adult, “non-traditional” students in our community. Recipients must be age 21 or older and residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who desire to advance their education and/or training at the COTC Coshocton Campus by pursuing a two-or-four-year degree or certificate. 

Leeanne Marie Hittle Memorial Scholarship Fund

Carlie Hittle and her brother Chad Gress established this fund in memory of Carlie’s seven-month-old daughter Leeanne, who passed away in May 2007. The fund offers at least one $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Ridgewood, River View, Coshocton and/or Tri-Valley High School.

Robert A. and Mary Jane Holehouse Fund

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Holehouse established this fund in memory of their parents in 2003. The fund is used to provide a minimum $500 one-year scholarship to a Coshocton High School graduating senior.

Irwin and Janet Gray Jennings Scholarship Fund

The Rev. Irwin Jennings and his wife Janet, graduates of Conesville and Plainfield high schools respectively, as well as Muskingum University, established this fund to benefit graduating seniors who need financial assistance with their higher education. The award rotates between River View and Ridgewood high schools and preference is given to a student who plans to attend Muskingum University.

Joseph W. Johnston Memorial Scholarship Fund

Earnings from this fund are used to provide scholarships to Coshocton High School students. Winners are selected by a committee of Coshocton High School teachers and administrators.

R.R. “Casey” and Mary M. Jones Scholarship Fund

Established by the Charles H. “Casey” Jones family in memory of Charles’ parents, this fund grants a one-year scholarship to a Coshocton County Career Center graduate.

Graham Kendall Soccer Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund is the second fund to be named in memory of Graham Kendall. The fund was established through a transfer of funds from the Coshocton City Schools Board of Education at the request of the Boys Soccer Boosters in the hope that through the Coshocton Foundation’s financial stewardship, the scholarship funds will see increased investment income that will allow for the awarding of annual scholarships to graduating male soccer players.  

Heather B. Kendall Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was created by friends and family of Heather Kendall, a long-time advocate for the developmentally disabled in our community. Scholarships from this fund will benefit graduating seniors who either have a disability or plan to pursue a career which will assist the disabled. 

Lady Bear’s Soccer Scholarship Fund

This fund was created to provide a one-year $500 scholarship to a graduating River View High School female senior who has been a member of the soccer team for four years. Recipients are determined by the team’s coach and the RVHS guidance staff.

Nicholas A. Lauvray Scholarship Fund

Following a near-fatal automobile crash in 2004, Nicholas Lauvray, a 2003 graduate of Coshocton High School and 2007 graduate of The Ohio State University, determined that “It wasn’t time for me to die–God still has something planned for me to do.” As a small part of being thankful for the life God has given him, Nicholas set up a scholarship to be given to a Christian swimmer at Coshocton High School.

Shane Layland Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund honors the memory of the Coshocton County Career Center automotive student who was tragically killed in 2004. A $250 award, based on financial need, is made to a Career Center junior for the purpose of purchasing tools for the automotive class.

George Leach Memorial Scholarship Fund

The George Leach Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in August 2023 by the American Legion Post 65 in honor of George B. Leach, a decorated WWII Veteran who landed at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion. With the Third Armored Division of the First Army, he participated in several major campaigns during his 20 months in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Leach continued to serve in the Army National Guard until 1953. After his retirement from Peabody Coal Company after 36 years as a prospector, Mr. Leach became active with the Coshocton County Veterans Service Honor Guard. He participated in 1,431 funerals with the Honor Guard, and for 23 years as a member of the American Legion Color Guard, raised the flag at all CHS home football games. In grateful recognition of his military service and his record-setting Honor Guard participation, the American Legion Post 65 has dedicated two scholarships in Mr. Leach’s memory. Beginning in 2024, a graduating high-school senior from a Coshocton County school with a parent or grandparents who are honorably discharged veterans, and an adult who is either a veteran or on active duty, will be eligible to apply for a $1,000 one-time scholarship which will commemorate Mr. Leach’s many years of service.

James A. Lee Scholarship Fund

A one-year scholarship to a Coshocton High School student is made possible through this fund. It was established by the family of the late James A. Lee, a long-time member of the Coshocton Foundation’s Distribution Committee.

Living Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was created in 1970 by the parents of three Ridgewood High School students, Michael Schlarb, Ward Carr and Jeff St. John, who were killed in a catastrophic automobile accident. The fund initially made loans to Ridgewood graduates for college expenses. As the fund grew through the years, the loans became scholarship grants.  The fund has become a part of the Coshocton Foundation, but its board members are active in selecting the winners. The primary criteria for the awards are academic achievement and community involvement.

SSG Paul C. Mardis, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established to honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Mardis, a native of Coshocton and a resident of Palmetto, Florida, who died as a result of injuries he received in the war in Iraq. The fund provides a one-year scholarship to a graduating senior from Coshocton High School and from Palmetto High School. 

Keely Jo Maxwell Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in memory of an outstanding student athlete who tragically lost her life in an automobile accident shortly before her graduation from Coshocton High School. Scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors at River View High School, Ridgewood High School and Coshocton High School.

Richard McCluggage Scholarship Fund

Established by the family and friends of long-time music teacher Richard McCluggage, this is a one-year scholarship awarded for a student with good academic records and a demonstrated devotion to music. The chairs of the music departments of the three local high schools participate in the selection of the recipient.

James J. and Jean McConnell Scholarship Fund

Earnings from this fund are used to provide a scholarship of at least $2,000 to a graduating senior from one of the three Coshocton County high schools and Tri-Valley. Awards are made by a committee including the McConnell family based upon need, academic performance, and extracurricular or community activities.

Nadine McFarland Scholarship Fund

Established by donations after the death of Mrs. McFarland, a long-time River View High School teacher, when given, this scholarship provides a one-year grant to a River View graduating senior.

Dorren C. & M. Catherine Miller Scholarship Fund

Mr. Miller was a retired line superintendent for Frontier Power and an active member of the West Lafayette Rotary Club. He was killed when hit by a car while crossing a street in West Lafayette. Established in his memory by his wife Catherine, this scholarship is awarded to a Ridgewood High School graduating senior.

Grace and Clarence Miller Scholarship Fund

Clarence Miller’s will provided for a fund specifically for scholarships in addition to the fund established for other educational projects. Initial funding was more than $1.4 million, bringing the Miller gifts to two Foundation funds to more than $2 million. Scholarships are available for either graduating senior or older adults who plan to attend either COTC or Muskingum University at the Central Ohio Technical College Coshocton Campus.

The Dale R. Parkhill & Lavonne Parkhill Scholarship Fund

Established by the Parkhills late in 2006, this scholarship was created by these long-time friends of the community. The $1,000 renewable scholarship, in honor of Don Rushing, is given to a River View graduating senior.

Earl J. Patterson and Patrick E. Patterson Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established in late 2020 through the Living Trust of Patrick E. “Pep Patterson, who died in 2017. It honors the memory and lives of Patrick and his father Earl Patterson, who passed away in 2018. Earl, a Navy veteran and career electrician, retired to farm alongside his son Patrick, a successful area farmer and graduate of Ridgewood High School. Together, they made provisions for a scholarship to be awarded annually to a Coshocton County graduating high school senior or a university student pursuing a degree or certificate in agriculture or engineering, with preference given to graduates of a high school Future Farmers of America organization (FFA).

Walter H. Pomerene Fund

This fund provides a one-year scholarship each year to a Coshocton County Career Center graduating senior for advanced vocational training.

Rainbow Scholarship Fund

Upon the closing of the Rainbow Children’s Center, its P.T.O. had a balance remaining in its treasury. It was the group’s decision to establish this fund, which will provide a $500 annual award to a graduating senior who attended Rainbow as a youth. The scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2017, which was the first year for a student who attended Rainbow in 2010 to graduate from high school.

Brian Reiss Memorial Scholarship Fund

Friends and family of Brian Reiss contributed to create this fund at the Coshocton Foundation. Brian graduated from River View High School in 1978 and went on to work at AK Steel and later Greer Steel, where he finished his career as Plant Manager with a team he admired and friendships he valued. His passions in life included being a positive mentor and helping people develop to reach their full potential. High school seniors who intend to enter the vocational trades after graduation are eligible to apply for this scholarship, which will first be offered in 2024. Finalists will be selected based on their demonstrated character, commitment to their trade, the strength of their application and responses to thought-provoking essay questions. Brian’s family will assist in the selection of recipients. 

River View Class of 1968 Scholarship Fund

This is the first River View alumni class fund established at the Coshocton Foundation, and was distributed upon the 50th anniversary of the class’ graduation (2018).

River View Schools Scholarship Fund

Early in 2002, a group was formed to provide a vehicle for soliciting and accepting contributions to fund scholarships for River View graduates and other educational projects.  Recommendations for scholarships are made by this committee.

Harmon “Robby” Robinson & Norma Robinson Scholarship Fund

Created by the Robinsons’ sons Gary and Larry in memory of their parents, this fund provides two scholarships annually. One is awarded to a graduating senior from the Coshocton County Career Center and the other is awarded to a graduating senior who is an active member of the Coshocton Nazarene Church. 

Scott Rose Memorial Scholarship Fund

With a great deal of support from friends and family, this scholarship fund was initiated by JoAnn Rose in November of 2022 in honor of her husband of 34 years, Scott, a 1986 graduate of Ridgewood High School. Scott, who passed away in October of 2021, was passionate about plumbing and teaching, and served as a freshman football coach at Canal Winchester. He loved mentoring youth and helping to shape their lives. He felt his life was positively impacted by the life lessons learned and friendships made through participating in Ridgewood football. It is in this spirit that the Scott Rose Memorial Scholarship was created to provide support and encouragement to a hard-working graduating senior member of the Varsity Football Program at Ridgewood High.


Jack E. Saxton Memorial Basketball Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by Kim Saxton and Rick Saxton in memory of Kim’s husband and Rick’s brother. Jack was a star basketball player at Coshocton High School, and a photograph of him detailing his sports accomplishments hangs in the school today. The family plans to raise funds for an ultimate goal of $10,000 for the fund, from which a $500 annual scholarship will be awarded to a Coshocton High School graduating senior who was part of the basketball program at the school.

Ruth A. Schooler Adult Education Fund

Scholarship grants from this fund shall be awarded to adults in Coshocton County and the area in and around the Village of Frazeysburg who desire to pursue their post-high school education in the furtherance of a career as a secretary, administrative assistant, chief of staff, or equivalent position. 

Scott Simpson Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Scott Simpson Memorial Scholarship Fund was created through the Simpson Family Fund in December of 2020.  Scott was a graduate of Coshocton High School (class of 2011), where he was a member of the varsity tennis and swim teams, the marching band and Key Club. Scott went on to study physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The scholarship, to be awarded in Scott’s memory, is intended to be renewable for four years to a student who attends an out-of-state college or university. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain at an out-of-state institution for the duration of their studies. Simpson family members assist in the selection of the winning applicant, who is selected based on merit and their written response detailing why it is important to them to pursue their post-secondary education out-of-state. The scholarship in Scott’s memory was first awarded in the Spring of 2021.

Francisco and Vener Sison Scholarship Fund

Andrew C. Sison, son of Dr. and Mrs. Sison, established this fund in honor of his parents. It provides for a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior of Coshocton High School who intends to enter the field of health care. Students studying any of the more than 80 careers in the field of health care listed on the American Medical Association’s website are eligible to apply for this award.

Smith Memorial Fund

Established by Roma Smith Vance in memory of her husband Melvin and their daughter Mary Ann, this fund awards a $2,000 scholarship to students active in girls’ track, girls’ basketball or band at Coshocton High School. Mrs. Vance serves on the committee which selects award winners.

Josh Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund

Josh Snyder was an avid sports fan and supporter of Coshocton High School athletic teams. Created by his parents in memory of their son, this fund provides a scholarship of at least $500 to be awarded to a Coshocton High School graduating senior.

SnyderSTRONG Scholarship Fund

Pat and Stephanie Snyder created the AddySTRONG Scholarship Fund in memory of their eight-month-old daughter Addy Anne who died in 2013 while awaiting a liver transplant. Following the death of their second child, Grady in 2014, the family changed the fund name to SnyderSTRONG. It will provide a minimum of one scholarship for a River View graduating senior who plans to enter any aspect of the medical field. Community support has been widespread for this fund. 

Jean Bush Thompson Scholarship Fund

This fund will provide a scholarship for a Coshocton County high school graduate who wishes to pursue advanced education in the field of home economics. Selections are to be based more upon financial need than academic performance.

Thompson Family Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established with gratitude by the Thompson Family in recognition of the many life lessons to be gained through the pursuit of higher education, and with a special appreciation for the life-changing benefits of a technical college experience. The scholarship will benefit an area graduate who intends to pursue a degree or certificate in the fields of agriculture or natural resources, with preference given to applicants planning to attend Hocking College or Ohio State’s Wooster Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI).  

Tom Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in October of 2018, by the family of Tom “Tommy” Thompson, the “sports voice” of Coshocton County, following a long, valiant battle with cancer. Tom was a lifelong baseball fan and Hall of Honor award-winning coach. Thus, the scholarship is to give preference to an athlete who played softball or baseball in their junior and senior years at any of the county high schools. The fund has received broad community support from Tom’s friends and fans, enabling the amount the scholarship to be increased for the years following the initial award, which was presented in the Spring of 2019.

Timmons Family Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund was originally established in 1953 as a part of the Timmons Foundation, by William D. Timmons, to provide scholarships to Coshocton High School graduates aspiring to a career in science or engineering. The award was created in memory of his brother John F. Timmons, a civil engineer who was killed in a plane crash in 1948. Following the death of William D. Timmons, Jr. his siblings voted to dissolve the family foundation, with the Coshocton Foundation becoming the custodian of a new scholarship fund late in 2020, but not before the Timmons Foundation had contributed over $1,000,000 to various community causes during its 66 -year tenure.

Jeffrey B. Westfall Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in early 2008 this $500 award is made available to a student from any of the three local high schools or Career Center in memory of Jeffrey Westfall and his love for, and work with, the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, and his high regard for educators.

Dana E. Widder Scholarship Fund

Established through the generosity of Dana, an RN, this scholarship rewards an outstanding River View High School student planning to pursue a four-year degree in nursing.  

Les Widder Scholarship Fund

Retired River View educator Les Widder established his scholarship in order to provide encouragement and to recognize the potential of an outstanding River View senior intending to pursue a four-year degree in the fields of either music education or music performance.

Terry Allen Wright Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund was established in December of 2020 in memory of Terry Allen Wright who passed away in April of 2019. With Terry’s love for baseball instilled at a young age and fostered throughout his youth and through high school, the memorial scholarship in his name will be awarded to a River View High School graduating senior who intends to continue playing baseball in college.

Endowment, Donor Advised, Designated & Area of Interest Funds

Gary and Terrie Baker Family Donor Advised Fund

Established late in 2015, the intention of the fund is to allow fund advisors Gary and Terrie Baker to recommend grants to local charitable organizations.

Berg Family Donor Advised Fund

The Berg Family Donor Advised Fund was established in September 2021 by Richard (Dick) and Frances (Francie) Berg, who planned to actively recommend charitable contributions to the Foundation during their lifetimes and have made provisions in their estate planning for the perpetuation of their fund beyond their lifetimes for the continued betterment of the community.

Charles E. and Dorothy S. Bechtol Fund

This fund was established in 1999 with an initial gift of $300,000.  The fund is used for general charitable purposes recommended by the fund representative and approved by the Distribution Committee.

The Blessings Fund

This Donor Advised Fund was established in December of 2018 through the generosity of Dr. Robert and Kathy Gwinn. Since the fund’s origin the Gwinns have recommended several charitable grants, with a primary focus on faith-based organizations.

Willard S. and Helen J. Breon Endowment Fund

This fund was created in 1996 by Foundation Trustee Emeritus Bill Breon and his wife Helen, for the betterment of the community. In recent years, earnings from the fund have been distributed to the Leadership Coshocton County program for its operating expenses.

Philip K.D. Brown and Patricia M. Brown Fund

The Philip K.D. Brown and Patricia M. Brown Fund, a donor advised fund, was established in January of 2020 by the Browns who plan to actively recommend charitable contributions to the Foundation during their lifetimes, and have made provisions in their estate planning for the perpetuation of their fund beyond their lifetimes for the continued betterment of the community.

William and Sue Brown Donor Advised Fund

This fund benefits eligible organizations and programs in the community. The Browns make recommendations regarding grants to the Distribution Committee for its approval.

David N. Burns Youth Fund

Established by David W. and Mary Cathryn Burns in their son’s memory, the fund is intended to provide assistance for youth attending special programs. Emphasis is given to programs and camps conducted by colleges in the hope that attendance will encourage participants to further their education.

Community Development Fund

A group of local individuals created the idea of asking individuals and businesses to donate $100 per month toward economic development in Coshocton County. Expenditures from the fund are recommended by the Coshocton Port Authority, and are typically used for land acquisition, lease subsidies, business relocations, grant matches, marketing and entrepreneurial grants.

Coshocton Christian School Legacy Fund

This fund was established in early July 2022 by the Coshocton Christian School Board to provide dedicated supporters of Coshocton Christian School a vehicle to channel their charitable giving as well as estate planning to the benefit of the school. The board’s hope is to one day be able to provide tuition subsidies for worthy students and to eventually provide support for future capital projects. 

Coshocton City Schools Designated Fund

Formerly known as the Coshocton City Schools Foundation Fund, this fund was established to receive contributions from former students, staff members, businesses and friends of the school system. A committee makes quarterly recommendations for disbursements from the fund for the betterment of Coshocton City Schools.

Coshocton County Bar Association Donor Advised Fund

The Coshocton County Bar Association Donor Advised Fund was established by members of the local Bar Association in September 2023, just prior to the end of the Fiscal Year. Funding was provided from an accumulation of fees charged to attorneys over the years. Bar Association members hope to use funds to support future Bar Association initiatives and to provide support for their scholarship fund, which has benefited graduating high school seniors, county wide, since 1997.

Coshocton County EMS Fund

This fund was established to allow tax-free contributions in support of Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services. Distributions are recommended by a committee comprised of the EMS director and two other persons selected by EMS. Grants are approved by the Distribution Committee.

Coshocton County Youth Leadership Fund

This fund was established to accept general donations as well as contributions from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund for the Youth Leadership program’s operating expenses.

Coshocton Elks 376 Charities Fund

The Coshocton Elks 376 Charities established this fund at the Coshocton Foundation to benefit worthy projects which aid communities, schools and organizations in Coshocton County. The creation of this charitable fund is hoped to demonstrate the Elks’ mission: “Elks Care and Elks Share.”  

Coshocton Hospital Fund

The fund was created in July of 2014 by the Board of Directors of the hospital, and is intended to be used for capital improvements at the Coshocton hospital.

Coshocton Kiwanis Club Fund

Established in 2003 with a gift from the club and the estate of Clarence Miller, this fund is added to by the club with continuing contributions. The Kiwanis Foundation trustees recommend distributions, normally only from the earnings of the club with a focus on serving children who live in Coshocton County.

Coshocton Meals on Wheels Fund

This fund was established by Robert (Robin) Coffman just two weeks before his death in 2013. The fund will benefit the local Meals on Wheels program as needed in future years.

Coshocton Youth Foundation Fund

The Youth Foundation consisted of local high school students who invested their time, talent and money for the betterment of the community. Students raised funds, wrote grant applications, and disbursed money to projects selected by the students. The group is currently inactive.

Eleanor Wade Custer Charitable Fund

Earnings from this fund are donated entirely to the Coshocton Salvation Army in Mrs. Custer’s memory.

Robert W. and Dorothy H. Dunmire Fund

Each year a percentage of the value of the fund will be made available to the Foundation to be used for grants which will benefit the youth of Coshocton County. For the past few years, this fund has been a major support of the Coshocton County Youth Leadership program. Grant recommendations may be made by the Dunmires’ children.

William and Mary Ehrich Library Fund

Established in 1997 by Mary Ehrich, this fund will distribute a maximum of 10% of the fund’s principal, plus earnings, to support projects of the Coshocton Public Library.

Derek A. Brown Elgart Memorial Soccer Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established by Derek’s parents, Amy and Todd Brown, after his tragic death in December 2008, and benefits non-profit soccer programs at the recommendation of the Brown family.

Joe R. Engle Museum Gallery Fund

Income from a $200,000 grant supports lectures, exhibits and acquisitions connected with the Joe R. Engle Gallery at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.

Joe R. Engle Recital Fund

This fund augments a similar fund at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church. Income from both funds supports organ recitals, memorial events or performances which utilize the Engle organ at the Presbyterian Church.

Perry L. & Georgia R. Engle Memorial Organ Maintenance Fund

This fund also supplements a Coshocton Presbyterian Church fund which was established to provide for maintenance and repair of the Engle organ.

Alma Felver and Olive Mullin Fund

Alma Felver was a long-time Edmont-Wilson employee and member of Roscoe United Methodist Church.  Her Last Will & Testament set forth the creation of this fund which also honors her sister Olive. The fund benefits Hospice of Coshocton County, the American Heart Association, and the Unrestricted Fund of the Coshocton Foundation.

Fisher/McCarren Fund

Established by Kenneth and Rhea Fisher, the proceeds from this fund are distributed at the direction of the Coshocton Foundation.

Footlight Players Fund

Established by an anonymous donation and consolidated with the Cornelia Flood Shaw Fund, this benefits the local community theatre group. The Footlight Players may request grants from the fund’s earnings but the principal may not be depleted.

Four Paws Friends Legacy Donor Advised Fund

This fund was created in November of 2018 by the former Board of Directors of the Four Paws Friends. It is their hope that their hard work can be continued through grants from the Fund issued to caring groups that are dedicated to animal welfare and that employ innovative solutions for the betterment of the lives of animals in Coshocton County.  

Friends of the Parks Recreational Trail Maintenance Fund

Established by an initial gift from the Schooler Family Foundation, earnings from this fund will finance maintenance on the trail which was opened at Lake Park in 2000.  Disbursements will be recommended by an advisory board comprised of the president and treasurer of the Friends of the Parks, and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Jim and Mary Ann Gill Donor Advised Fund

This fund was initiated by Jim and Mary Ann Gill in December of 2020, with the Gills planning to actively recommend impactful charitable contributions during their lifetimes, with provisions for annual distributions from the proceeds of the fund to their favorite causes beyond their lifetimes.

Joan Hartley Gross Memorial Fund

Created through a generous bequest in the Last Will and Testabment of Mrs. Gross, who died in 2010, this fund was established by the Trustees in her honor. A comunity philanthropist and advocate for the Coshocton Foundation, for many years, Mrs. Gross served as a member of the Foundation’s Distribution Committee and advised a restricted fund which was instrumental in the development of the Lake Park Complex.

Charles Hathaway IV Boy Scout Fund

Chuck and Paula Hathaway created this fund in memory of their son Charles, who died in 2012 at the age of 24.  It will benefit local Boy Scouts by assisting them in achieving their dreams by having adventures at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the Boy Scout National Jamboree or another Boy Scout High Adventure experience. 

Hay Historical Fund

This fund provides for the cost of maintaining the groups at the Old Stone Fort in Oxford Township.  The fund previously was administered by the now inactive Coshocton Historical Society.

Hospice of Coshocton Legacy Fund  

This fund was created in June of 2017 by the Board of Directors of Health Services and Hospice of Coshocton County, and is intended to be used to support the programs of Community Hospice of Coshocton County and/or Health Services of Coshocton County (Gentlebrook) that benefit the citizens of Coshocton County.

Joseph W., Fred E. and Helen LeRetilley Johnston Fund

This fund was created through a generous bequest from Fred E. Johnston, long-time friend of the Coshocton Foundation, who served on both the Investment and Distribution committees for many years. This legacy constitutes the largest single gift in the Foundation’s history. The Trustees and Distribution Committee make grants from this fund to address the needs of the community. 

Eugene and Marianne Lautenschleger Fund

This fund was established by the Lautenschlegers for the benefit of several local charities. With Marianne predeceasing him, the fund became active with Gene’s passing in October of 2018.

Leadership Coshocton County Endowment Fund

Established by a gift of $100,000 from the late Robert M. Thomas, the earnings are to underwrite a portion of the operating expenses of the Leadership Coshocton County program.

Leadership Coshocton County Operating Fund

This fund was established to accept general donations as well as contributions from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund for the Leadership program’s operating expenses.

Tom and Merle Leech Donor Advised Fund

This fund was created to benefit numerous community organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Salvation Army, Coshocton County Community Band, Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, Friends of the Parks, First Step Family Violence Intervention Services, Mentoring Center of Coshocton County, Coshocton Public Library, Dollars for Scholars, and the Coshocton County Bar Association Scholarship Fund. It was established by Merle and Tom Leech. Tom was a long-time attorney and was active in many organizations in the community.

Edwin F. Mulligan Endowment Fund

This fund was established by Mr. Mulligan for general charitable purposes in the community.

Janet Jones Mulligan Aquatic Fund

This fund was established to encourage aquatic skills, promote aquatic activities and assist swimming facilities in Coshocton County. The fund was established by the family of the late Mrs. Mulligan, an accomplished, lifelong competitive swimmer and patron of area aquatic activities.

Newcomerstown Public Library Fund

Established by that library’s Board of Trustees, this is to fund expenses including operations, capital expenditures, programming and purchase of materials or equipment.  

Northeast Coshocton County Infrastructure Fund

Discussions centering on Economic Development in support of the fine woodworking artisans and their products’ growing impact on the local economy led to the formulation of the Northeast Coshocton County Infrastructure Fund, a collaborative effort of the Coshocton Port Authority, Coshocton County Engineer’s Department and the public to provide matching funds for road resurfacing projects that are outside the County Engineer’s budget.

John D. O’Shea and Kathleen E. O’Shea Fund

Established through the Kathleen E. O’Shea Revocable Trust, this fund is to be used to support live theater and dance performances in Coshocton County. Kathleen O’Shea was a lover of dance and was active in choreography and theater productions in Coshocton and Marion, Ohio. It was Kathleen’s hope that her generous gift would enrich the Coshocton community.   

Don and Sheila Parkhill Donor Advised Fund

This fund benefits eligible organizations and programs in the community. The Parkhills make recommendations to the Distribution Committee for its approval.

Earl J. Patterson and Patrick E. Patterson Memorial Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established in late 2020 through the Living Trust of Patrick E. “Pep” Patterson who died in 2017, and honors the memory and lives of Patrick and his father Earl Patterson, who passed away in 2018. An advisory committee will make recommendations to the Foundation for qualified distributions from the earnings of this fund.

Pierce Family Fund

Established to honor the memory of the late Clifton and Judy Pierce, this fund is advised by their son Judge C. Fenning Pierce. Distributions are recommended by the family and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Playvilion Maintenance Fund

Established with an initial gift of $25,000 from the Schooler Family Foundation, this fund provides revenue to maintain the impressive playground area at Lake Park.

Pomerene Center Community Arts Fund

Established in August 2016 through a generous gift from Robert and Carolyn Simpson, this fund provides support for the Pomerene Center and its community arts projects such as the artPark. The Simpsons hoped to encourage others who share their interest in promoting the arts in Coshocton to consider gifts to the fund, either during their lifetime or in estate planning.

Joyce K. Renfrew Memorial Fund

This fund was created through a trust from the estate of the late Mrs. Renfrew, a long-time educator and friend of the Footlight Players. It has been used to purchase new seats and for other renovations in the auditorium at Triple Locks Theater.

Socrates J. Rettos Cardinal Chorale Fund

John and Reba Rettos established this fund in memory of their son, Socrates, who passed away due to esophageal cancer. An Eagle Scout in his youth, Socrates was active in band, music and theater in his hometown, including singing with the Coshocton Community Choir. The intent of the fund is to provide programming support for the Cardinal Chorale, in recognition of the mentoring and dedication of the choir’s founder, Charles Snyder, who had also served as Socrates’ scout master.  

Richard L. (Dick) Richissin Fund

Earnings from this fund are used to support the Arrowhead District of the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America and to promote Scouting in Coshocton County. The fund was established in memory of Mr. Richissin, an Eagle Scout and long-time active member of the Coshocton community and advocate for the Boy Scouts.

Ridgewood Summer Recreation Fund

Established by the officers of Ridgewood Summer Recreation, this fund will support the summer baseball programs for youth in the West Lafayette area.

River View Schools Donor Advised Fund

This fund works alongside the River View Schools Scholarship Fund to provide money for other worthwhile endeavors within the school system, such as classroom equipment and educational trips. Distributions are made at the recommendation of this foundation’s distribution committee.

R. Larry & Judith Ann Heagle Robinson Fund 

This fund was established in November 2021 through a beneficiary provision in Larry Robinson’s IRA which named the Coshocton Foundation as a direct beneficiary at his passing. Judy and Larry were high school sweethearts and married in August of 1968.  Judy passed away in August of 2019, with Larry following her in August of 2021. The Foundation Trustees will direct this fund, issuing grants to the betterment of the community. 

Sacred Heart School Fund

Established in 2003 to provide funds for the operations of Sacred Heart School, distributions from the fund’s earnings may be requested by a committee designated by the school and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Seward D. and Edith Schooler Support Fund

Income from this endowment is to be used to pay the expense of operating and maintaining the Coshocton Foundation headquarters building which was also donated by the Schoolers. This frees regular Foundation funds for philanthropic community uses.

Simpson Family Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established by Robert E. and Juanita Simpson as an advised fund to benefit the general needs of the community. Grants from the fund are recommended by the Simpson family and approved by the Distribution Committee.

Wendell & Hilde Skelley Memorial Donor Advised Fund

This fund was established in December 2018 by Mrs. Skelley’s nine surviving children and their families in memory of Hilde and her husband Wendell. While Hilde lived to be 89, Wendell passed away quite suddenly at the age of 40, leaving Hilde with 10 children and limited financial resources with which to meet their needs. Hilde persevered by putting others before herself, by never quitting through difficult times and by leading by example. To honor their father and mother, the family intends to work with the Foundation to ensure that the fund in their parents’ memory is of benefit to the citizens of Coshocton County.

Skelton Family Fund

This fund was created by Joseph Skelton and his cousins Robert and James, practicing attorneys at Pomerene, Burns & Skelton law offices, The donors take an active role in recommending distributions from the fund.

Mary F. Taylor Donor Advised Fund

Proceeds earned by this fund are to be divided equally between the Coshocton City/County Park District and the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.

Ashton B. Conidi Thornsley Memorial Fund

This fund was established by Ashton’s maternal grandparents following the six-year-old’s death in an automobile accident two days before Christmas, 2008.  The fund will benefit youth programs in Coshocton County.

Robert T. Timmons, Sr. Funds 1, 2 and 3

In early September of 2020 Robert T. (Bob) Timmons, Sr. established three donor advised funds as part of his estate planning. While living Bob plans to actively recommend charitable grants to the Foundation, while at his death, a transition will take place that will see his three sons assume the advisory role and continue his legacy.

Trinity Episcopal Church Fund

A generous bequest from Joan Gross to her church led to the church’s Vestry to create this fund. Designed to address any financial needs of the church, it has already greatly assisted in the replacement of the building’s antiquated heating system. 

Ben Tufford Advised Fund

The Last Will & Testament of Ben Tufford, an avid baseball fan, sponsor and coach, provided for the establishment of this fund, which will benefit the Coshocton Cherokees American Legion Baseball organization.

United Way of Coshocton County Legacy Fund

With the hopes of providing a way for longtime supporters of the United Way of Coshocton to continue their legacy of giving, this fund will utilize a portion of the income to be reinvested in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Health related initiatives in Coshocton County.

Wayne and Flossie Van Dusen Fund

Created by a gift from the Van Dusens, annual distributions of the fund’s earnings will be made with equal 22% shares going to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, the Coshocton County Career Center, the Coshocton Salvation Army, and Health Services of Coshocton County (Hospice). The remaining 12% of the earnings shall be retained and added to the principal balance.

Harry C. Wilt Memorial EMS Education Grant Fund 

Harry Wilt was instrumental in the establishment of the Coshocton County EMS. Along with other community leaders, Harry helped analyze the need and helped to plan and implement community-based EMS in Coshocton County through the formation of the Coshocton County Emergency Squad Association in the early 1970s. Harry subsequently served a term as Squad Chief of the Coshocton Squad and also a term as President of the County Association. Harry was an active volunteer for the majority of his adult life; a volunteer firefighter, EMT and with the Boy Scouts of America. It is in this spirit that his wife, Dortha W. Ralph D. and Judy P. Wisenburg Fund

Earnings from this fund may be used for philanthropic grants approved by the Distribution Committee.

Wisenburg Trinity Episcopal Church Fund

This designated fund became established at the passing of 101-year-old Ralph D. Wisenburg in October of 2018. The fund agreement provides for annual disbursements to the Trinity Episcopal Church of Coshocton, where Ralph, a long-time member, was also a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden.

WOSU Endowment Fund

Established to provide financial support for WOSE-FM, the Coshocton County affiliate of the Ohio State University’s classical music radio station, WOSU-FM. Earnings from the fund’s principal are issued at the request of the station’s advisory board and approved by the Distribution Committee.
